Camping towns in the Vendée featured on this website:
The island of Noirmoutier in northern Vendee has some beautiful, unspoilt beaches.
One of the most popular towns in the whole of the Vendée must be St Jean de Monts with lots of beaches and charming shops. When you read about St Jean Plage you will find that the writer means St Jean de Monts.
Set in the Vendée, the resort of Bretignolles sur Mer lies between les Sables d'Olonne and St Gilles Croix de Vie, a quiet resort with 13 kms of beach.
Just a few miles south of Brétignolles is the little town of Brem s Mer, a highly respected wine centre.
Located in the Vendée near the coast, St Julien des Landes is set in wonderful forest surroundings.
One of the largest resorts in the Vendée is les Sables d'Olonne - a superb city with great beaches.
A purpose built holiday resort, Port Bourgenay has a modern marina, a golf course and the very pretty Veillon beach.
The cosy little resort of Jard s Mer in the southern Vendée has everything you need for a camping holiday - including a respectablel amount of peace and quiet.
Having stayed in les Conches a few times we can say this is a really nice little village with a good beach and parking next to it. Slap bang next to les Conches is the small village of Longeville s Mer with it's shops on the hilltop next to the church. There is some good surfing to be had here when the tide id right.
Just 6 miles south of Longeville is the larger town of la Tranche with some good beaches, surfing and immaculately kept flowers lining the roads.
The lac du Jaunay is a natural reservoir appreciated by nature lovers, anglers, hikers and others who visit to admire the beauty of flora, fauna & fishing.
Nowhere in the Vendee is more than a 3 hour drive from the ferry port of St Malo in northern Brittany, and the fact that two thirds of that journey is on fast, free dual carriageways gives most drivers time to arrive at their chosen camping site before 11pm even if they take the Condor ferry to St Malo which docks at circa 7.40 pm (French time).
These days when planning a journey we have to take fuel consumption/ costs into consideration so sometimes it can pay to drive less and spend more on a crossing to arrive nearer to your destination. This is why we recommend sailings to St Malo, Caen or Cherbourg as being the most economical in terms of both cost and time.
Camping holidays in the Vendee region are really great as we, the editors of this website, know only too well. This is a region which has pretty near everything anyone could wish for in a camping or mobile home holiday, but there are busy or 'bustling' resorts and quiet ones, so you need to know which you would like best.
'Bustling' is tour operator speak for 'busy', so you can expect resorts such as St Jean de Monts in the north of the Vendee and la Tranche in the south to be just that in season, but the camping season is short in France so both these towns are extremely pleasant at any time and especially before and after our UK school holidays.
Camping resorts in the Vendee region really start with the Ile de Noirmoutier in the north of the department and follow the coastline all the way down to la Tranche and beyond in the south.
There are masses of walking and cycling routes here as a great deal of the coastline is beach, dunes or forest land with towns and villages dotted in between, and we can say from experience that camping in the Vendee takes some beating!
