St Julien is a small village with only about 1300 inhabitants which is boosted in the summertime when the camping season begins, so all in all it is a haven of peace for those who like their camping holidays that way.

St Julien is roughly 15 KMs or 10 miles from the nearest beach, so anyone staying here can drive St Julien des Landesthere in a few minutes or cycle there in about half an hour.

The nearest beaches to St Julien are at Notre Dame des Dunes, Bretignolles sur Mer and Brem sur Mer, and these last two small towns are also busy little camping holiday resorts in their own right.

La Roche sur Yon, the Vendee capital, is about 30 minutes away by car, but we don't know how to advise you about this place because in 1854, La Roche was described in an English guide as "the dullest town in France", and having driven through it many times I (Editor), have never been inclined to stop and admire the view.

But there are places here well worth visiting which are quite near to your camping base in St Julien; les Sables d'Olonne is one of them, and this largish town has some awesome beaches of its own as well as a great many good shops for you to exercise your plastic.

La Foret d'OlonneNext to les Sables is the Foret d'Olonne and this is about 8 KMs of woodland fringed by dunes which lead to the sea. The forest is a haven for wildlife and if you are quite you should be able to spot some little red squirrels.

Going north from your camping base are the 'twin' towns of St Gilles Croix de Vie and St Hilaire de Riez. They are nice shopping centres and St Hilaire has some lovely beaches too.

A little further up the coast is St Jean de Monts and the Foret des Pays de Monts, a 30 KMs plus wooded area which again is fringed with dunes going down to the beach.

So all in all there is plenty for anyone to see and do when they take a camping holiday in St Julien des Landes.
