Camping holiday information for Port Bourgenay, Vendee
Port Bourgenay in the Vendee is about 12 KMs south of the much larger town of les Sables d'Olonne, and this little town/village is right on the coast just 5 KMs away from Talmont St Hilaire. All three of these places are camping holiday resorts but the difference is that Port Bourgenay was purpose built for tourism and camping holidays.
OK, that means in effect that it has pretty much what the tourist visitor wants from such a small place, and generally the camping and mobile home fraternity enjoy the quiet life, which is a good thing because any serious night life is in les Sables just up the coast.
There is a modern marina here in Port Bourgenay and a golf course too, so you golfers can confidently pack your clubs to get a few rounds in during your vacation. The 85 hectare golf course here overlooks the marina of Port Bourgenay and is bordered by a pine forest on the very edge of the sea.
As it is such a small place it follows that there are less bars and restaurants than in a larger one, but they are here and they are pretty good too.
One day Port Bourgenay will be swamped by tourists and camping holidaymakers, but right now is the time to go there for a holiday before this happens and the place is spoiled. It is on the northern side of the river Payre and for some reason this hasn't happened yet.
The Beach at Veillon? The best one for Port Bourgenay - is one of the prettiest in the Vendee, but it does get busy so we recommend that you get there early and stake a claim to your share of it, and if you are driving there then the early car gets the parking space! The beach is supervised during the high season and there is a beach hut/restaurant there which sells refreshments.
A walk over the dunes or along the beach to the river Payre, especially at low tide, will reward you with possibly the finest scenery in this part of France. And if you like to take a few walks whilst on your camping holiday here then the cliff top walk north from the Marina towards Les Sables-d'Olonne takes in some of the most rugged coastline in the Vendee.
We are sure that you will enjoy your camping or mobile home holiday experience in Port Bourgenay so much that you will return to the area some time soon.
