Jard sur Mer is a little village/town which really is sur Mer as it nestles right on the Vendee coast in between les Sables d'Olonne and la Tranche sur Mer which is a little way to the south. All three of these towns are camping and mobile home holiday resorts though Jard is by far the smallest of them.

To be completely fair, Jard sur Mer is more noted for its attractive harbour than its beaches, though there are beaches and an area of rocks where families can spend many hours rock pooling with the children, and there are some really good beaches for sunbathing and water sports nearby too.
To the south of Jard the has a base for divers and windsurfers although swimming is prohibited. The beach is supervised in high season and the rocks are exposed at low tide.
But the beach to the north of Jard's harbour is probably more to the liking of most camping holidaymakers; it is called the Plage du Pe du Canon and it is a beautiful beach with fine golden sand, and again, this is also supervised during the high season.
Another gorgeous beach is the Plage de la Mine on the edge of the Payre reserve, and this is a superb beach with supervision and facilities in high season
The whole area lends itself to tourism and over the decades camping and mobile home sites have sprung up all along this coastline. These campsites are all continually monitored by their respective councils and that is one of the reasons why camping in France is as good as it gets anywhere in the world.
About 15 KMs to the north of Jard sur Mer is the large town of les Sables d'Olonne which is also a resort but which has magnificent shopping facilities should you want to exercise your plastic.
A similar distance to the south is the camping holiday resort of la Tranche which is truly beautiful in summer and the approach road is always bedecked with hanging flower baskets.
Walking and cycling here is also quite delightful and you have at least 10 KMs of forest land to wander around in where there are dunes amongst the trees and all manner of bird and animal life.
We are so sure you will enjoy your camping holiday in the Jard area that you will want to return for another someday soon!
