Camping & mobile home holidays in and around St Tropez, Cote d'Azur, south of France
Saint-Tropez is a town just over 100 KMs to the east of Marseille, in the Var department of the Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur region of southeastern France. It is also the principal town in the canton region of Saint-Tropez, and for many, many years this has been one of the Meccas for camping holidaymakers in the south of France.
St Tropez is one of the 'glitzy' places where the rich and famous come in the summertime, and it is thought that at that time there are more celebrities based here and along the coast in places like Cannes, Juan le Pins, Nice and Monaco than there are in Hollywood! These are not camping people though, these are mansion owners, yacht owners and mega rich to boot.
But there you go; we can't all be rich and famous, we can't all own yachts other than the ones we sail in the bath, but we can go celebrity spotting along the coast to see how many famous people you can spot in a couple of weeks camping trip.
Other than that, St Trop is great for swimming off the beaches and a whole range of water sports, though there isn't enough of a tide for surf enthusiasts. But that can be made up for by the usually wonderful weather, the golden beaches hereabouts and the azure blue of the Mediterranean Sea on which you can float all day on an airbed.
That brings us neatly to caution you about the sun here; it can be seriously hot so you will need some decent high factor sun cream, and we strongly recommend that you buy this and anything else you may need for your holidays at home in the UK. The reason? Shop prices in St Tropez and all along the Cote d'Azur are enough to make strong men weep. In short, it is very expensive to shop here, so take what you can with you.
If you need something to do one day when the pull of the sun lounger has begun to pall (does it ever?) then you could spend some time in Cannes or Nice and see how the 'other half' live, though we warn you that although your camping holiday in St Tropez will cost you no more than one in Normandy, Brittany or anywhere else in France, but if you go to the shops you will need deeper pockets.
Take care and have a lovely camping holiday in and around St Tropez.
