Collioure is a lovely little place which faces the Mediterranean Sea in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of southern France about 26 KMs from the French/Spanish border.

Without a doubt everyone calls this village 'picturesque' and with good reason too. It is old and it is an authentic village, once being a popular place for Romans, Greek and later Visgoth visitations, some of whom came to trade, none of whom came to camp unless with an army.

It has a small Catalan harbour which is sheltered by a quiet bay where the chain of the Pyrenees meets the Mediterranean Sea. The climate here is much as you would expect from being in the south of France, though the north wind which blows around this coastline now and then can make A backstreet in Collioureit nicely cooler.

Swimming and watersports are on offer in addition to camping, and there are little bays with sand and pebble beaches dotted all over the shoreline.

From Collioure you can take the very twisty road into Spain for a spot of cheaper shopping, or if the mood takes you, go the other way along the coast and discover camping resorts such as Argeles-Plage, St Cyprien-Plage, Canet-Plage and the city where all the nightlife is around here; Perpignan.

Collioure beachHowever, if you plan to visit Perpignan may we suggest that you take the Park & Ride on the outskirts of the city? P&R is always very cheap in France and there are regular services (about every 20 mins) into and out of the city. P&R will ensure you have a safe parking place for the day and will probably cost the same as 2 hours parking in your home town.
