Canet Plage is a lovely little town in the Pyrenees-Orientales department of the Languedoc-Roussillon region in southern France, and situated as it is right on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea it is a haven for British camping and mobile home holidaymakers.

That was not always the way though because it is only relatively recently that the Languedoc has become popular with the camping fraternity and that was when we Brits discovered that the Languedoc has as much if not more going for it than the glitzy and mega expensive Cote d'Azur next door where the shop prices suit the rich and famous but can be a tad too much for visitors.

Yes, Canet Plage has now gone international, and it is now one busy little place as it is only a stone's throw from the major city of Perpignan, so at weekends and in high season it becomes seriously busy.

Chateau Vicomtal, CanetApart from that it is beautiful here and a real haven for both camping and mobile home holidays for those discerning people who love golden sandy beaches and azure blue seas like the Med. Walking here means winding walks along the creeks and peaceful pine forests, and cycling is popular too as you will see when you notice that the whole area is criss crossed with cycle tracks. Horse riding is also available near to your camping site.

Canet Plage has some nightlife in the summer months, so if that's your thing then you should head for the Place de la Mediterranee, which is in the very heart of the town. Otherwise you'll find nightlife a plenty slightly further afield in Perpignan

Canet PlageEven when you are on a self catering camping holiday it is nice to have a mean or two out, so you won't be disappointed in the range of bars, cafes and restaurants in Canet Plage. As this area is Catalan France it should come as no surprise to find that the food on offer here is also strongly Catalan, with delicious seafood and spicier dishes than you will find in much of France.

The whole area lends itself to both camping and mobile home holidays, so much so that if you decide to have a holiday here we are certain you will want to return one day soon.
