St Aubin-sur-Mer on the Normandy coast close to the city of Caen, started out as a small fishing village in 1851 when it was built on the orders of Napoleon 3rd, though these days tourism in the form of camping holidays has boosted the local economy no end.

Caen, NormandySt Aubin is located at the heart of the Normandy landing beaches, and partly because of that it has become a very popular camping and mobile home holiday resort with its own sandy beach about half a mile away from the village from where there is a variety of water sports activities available.

An evening stroll along the promenade is nice, and you will see that the local council has been at pains to make the whole village look beautiful with all the Mediterranean flowers in hanging baskets skillfully arranged throughout the whole place.

The village is quite quaint as the gaps between the waterfront properties lead to narrow alleyways and on to the old town which was here before camping holidays were invented. St Aubin also has a thriving market which operates on Saturdays with an added one on Wednesdays in season.

Beach at St Aubin sur MerAs a camping holiday resort St Aubin qualifies as one of the most peaceful, and though there are plenty of bars and restaurants here, this is not a place where you come for the nightlife.

But a great many of us taking camping holidays don't visit a resort mainly for the nightlife; we go for a number of reasons, and in the case of St Aubin one of those reasons could be the peace and quiet which is common in this area.

This is a lovely area and a wonderful village in which to take your camping holidays, and lots of people who visit St Aubin sur Mer return to it year after year.
