If you have never been to the Languedoc-Roussillon region of southern France then let me tell you that this is one huge area of wonderful natural countryside studded with small towns and villages sweeping down to the azure blue of the Mediterranean Sea.

It is on the Mediterranean shores where you find the little camping resorts, most of which used to be small fishing villages. The beautiful beaches here seem to be almost endless, and they will entrance you from the moment you arrive.

Pontiragnes Plage is one of these little villages which nestles on the shore in front of the vibrant city of Beziers, the wine and bullfighting capital of the Languedoc. Pontiragnes is mainly given over to tourism these days, hence the number of camping holiday sites which have sprung up (tastefully) in and around the village.

Typical beach in Languedoc

In a place such as Portiragnes you do what you came here to do; sunbathe and/or swim in the clear blue waters of the Med. There are various watersports on offer here apart from surfing for the obvious reason that the Med has no or little tide.

No camping holiday would be complete without a spot of fun, so we suggest you take a walk, or the car, around the headland to the Cap d'Agde where there is a Naturist town where clothing is banned unless it's cold. Please drop us a mail if you have dared to pop in there for a day.

Nightlife hereabouts is a tad sparse but if that's what you want then Beziers is the place for you, but remember that you still have to sunbathe in the hot sun the next day!

We love it in Portiragnes Plage and we hope you enjoy your camping holidays there too- maybe you will enjoy them so much you'll be returning soon.
