Quimper (pronounced Kemper) is the ancient capital of Finistere (the old name being La Cornouaille which has a striking resemblance to our Cornwall), and is the most traditional part of Brittany.

You can really enjoy a camping or mobile home holiday here and for history buffs this place is Utopia as, even though most of the original Roman buildings are long gone (Quimper was settled in AD 495 by the Romans), it still retains buildings from the 13th century to date. Quimper has been an active center of pottery production since the days when it was part of the Roman Empire.

Quimper old townMasses of history for you here then, but for others this town makes an excellent shopping centre and is quite close to the coast and one or two other camping holiday resorts in southern Brittany.

Benodet is one such, as is Beg-Meil and if you are an early riser it would be a wonderful experience if you could get to the docks at Concarneau when the shipping fleet comes in. as well as watching all the action you can also buy fish straight from the boats. Can't get fresher than that!

In the opposite direction from Benodet and Beg-Meil lies the gigantic Baie de Douarnenez with the town of the same name being the major attraction in the area. The Baie is semi sheltered from the constant battering on the Bay of Biscay but it provides a great additional day out and helps to make your camping holiday here memorable for many years to come.
