Camping  holidays in Carantec, Finistere, northern Brittany

Nearest port: Roscoff - 17km; Nearest airport: Brest - 59km; Distance to the beach: Plage du Kelenn - 2.5km

Carantec, on the northern coast of Brittany, has long been a favourite haunt for family camping and mobile home holidays, and with the mild climate there it suits all ages.

The town of Carantec faces the Baie du Morlaix, Morlaix being one of the major towns in the area, and the promontory on which it stands helps to form a nice sheltered bay on its eastern side.

Everyone to their own of course, but if I were booking a camping holiday here I would be booking a ferry to Roscoff because the ferry port there is only about 10 miles away, the next nearest being St Malo, a fair old drive away.

Carantec beachCarantec is an attractive family resort with seven beaches and a good variety of water sports on offer, but you will find ten people on sunbeds for every one person involved in water sports other than swimming.

There are seven small islets near to Carantec which make up the ornithology reserve which was created in 1962 to protect puffins and terns. The reserve is home to France's only colony of Roseate Terns and welcomes around 60,000 pairs of seabirds in winter. There are boat trips around the islets in summer. Well worth a trip we say!

Chateau du TaureauTo be fair we have to say that you don't go to Carantec for the nightlife. This is essentially a family camping resort which also attracts couples who like a quiet holiday away from the push and shove of busier resorts such as Benodet on the south coast, but we are so sure that you will love your camping holiday here in Carantec that you will return for another someday soon.
