Labenne the town and Labenne Ocean, the resort are a couple of miles away from each other in the southern part of Landes, a department of the Aquitaine region. Labenne Ocean is on the coast as you might expect, and it is here where most of the camping holiday companies have their pitches and mobile homes.
It's a lovely little place in what can only be described as a very scenic area, and a holiday here can be as energetic or as lazy as you want it to be because the main sports here are sunbathing on the gorgeous beaches or surfing.
Surfing is the thing all along the coastlines of Landes and Gironde, and the further south you get the better the surfing, or it seems to be at any rate, and that is not meant to knock the surfing at places like Biscarrosse or Lacanau which are much further north because it is excellent there as well.
It's just that now and then, instead of the very common 5 metre surf along this coastline you can get some really massive rollers nearer to the French/Spanish border. Together with the normally superb weather in this part of France, a combined camping and surfing holiday hereabouts must be sheer heaven!
If you are on a driving holiday then getting to your camping resort at or near to Labenne Ocean may look rather daunting at first glance; it may seem, and it is, a long way down the coast to Bordeaux and then back up the map to Labenne, but by far the best way is to motor down to Royan and catch the ferry from there across the river Gironde to le Verdon-sur-Mer. This saves a great many hours driving.
It has to be said that most people who go camping like to have a drinkie now and then either outside their mobile or in the bar where there may be some entertainment. But nightlife in Labenne? Well to be honest there isn't much of that but your resort is only a stone's throw from the very glitzy and upmarket city of Biarritz where you can get all the nightlife you can handle, and more.
A really good day out on your camping holiday here would be you clamber into your car, put the air con onto freezing and motor down into Spain. The quickest way is to take the A63 autoroute straight across the border but that will cost a few €€s in tolls, so we advise going on the N10 road which is not as fast but is as free as a bird.
Hopefully by the time you return home you will have enjoyed your camping experience at Labenne Ocean so much you'll soon be planning another holiday here for next year.
