Biarritz is a very upmarket city on the southwest coast of France in the Pyrenees-Atlantiques department of Aquitaine, and it is about 12 miles from the French/Spanish border. This is a favourite place for the French themselves to take camping holidays, so if you follow the old maxim of going where the locals go, eating where the locals eat then you should have a great time here.
It is widely accepted that Biarritz is the European centre of surf and surfing, and to bear that out there are surf schools virtually everywhere here, so if you can't surf now you certainly will be able to before you return home! If you don't fancy standing on a board when the big rollers come in then have a go at body surfing, it's great fun!
Lots of couples, groups and families come to Biarritz to combine a camping and surfing holiday, but if surfing isn't your thing then there are masses of other water sports facilities here.
In Biarritz you will find that there is a great deal for you to do and explore. Really, the city of Biarritz faces the Cote Basque part of the Bay of Biscay but it is amalgamated with Anglet and Bayonne, though the river Nive, the longest river in the Basque country splits Anglet from Bayonne.
During your camping holiday in and around Biarritz you may wish to spare a day or so to explore the historic town of St Jean de Luz which has the only sheltered bay between Arcachon and Spain, and this is where the marriage of Louis XIV to Maria-Teresa, the Infanta of Spain took place on 9th June 1660, but we doubt that their honeymoon was spent camping!
Whilst you are in St Jean de Luz you are only a few short miles from the border with Spain and the Costa Verde so you could pop into Spain for some cheap shopping if you like.
One way or another, we are certain you will enjoy a camping holiday in Biarritz
